Speaking from experience?
No my mortgage is a great deal and I'm not moving so the valuation doesn't worry me, but I'm clear what I'm exposed to.
Renting you just pay the guy and that is that. You can move when you want and the most you ever lose is a few quid if you break anything. If you own it you could be in it for tens of thousands of loss.
And don't anyone reply and say it could £10k of gain - you've been paying interest every month so you need to offset that. Capital portion will still be a whack unless you're 50.

I'm 26 and live at home. I come and go as I please, get everything cooked and cleaned for me and I get on well with my parents. I see no reason to rush and buy a gaff because that's the done thing.
I'd also have to move in with my missus now. And well, yeah

Jed - so scoot who works hard and pays taxes ect doesnt deserve a house because your gfs bro is dying? Not to be a cunt but i see a hard working couple as the ones who should be given council houses instead of people who bang kids out to get them (not a dig at you) or people who have an illness so feel they are owed something (again not a dig)

Lived with girlfriend 21-25, had our own bit in her rents house. Finished uni and saved up.
25, got dumped, discovered just how unhumourous cops (repeatedly ) catching you having a fumble in car parks is at that age, bought my flat.
Mortgage is less than rent would be on a half decent 1 bed flat.

I don't think people with jobs and no proper homeless circumstances should get council houses tbh.

Why? I think you would all shit your pants if you knew how much rent Sarah pays

I'm 27 and still at home. No where near being able to afford to move out, and even if I could, I'm not sure I'd want to. Get on really really well with my mum still... and we'd both be lonely if I moved out, so I don't see the point really!
Obviously I know there are perks though.

Because people who haven't bothered their arse at life should be penalised, not rewarded.

200k for a 2 bed apartment around here. That's 10% deposit 20k plus other fees etc so 25k say then pay 1k a month mortgage. Have a shit life eating beans just so you can tell people that you "own" your own house.
Fuck that

I agree, I genuinely do, but sometimes the bigger picture needs to be looked at.
Also this government make it impossible for single mums to better themselves.

This is so close to a colleague of mine's real life - he seems happy with it though.
£280k place, £39k deposit and him and his girlfriend pay around £1100 a month.

im 26 and live at home still. got debt from previous escapades but still managed to move in with now ex girlfriend for abit. but she cheated on me the cunt so i moved back home, i`d like my own place definately but lack of hours at work (im a posty) and paying off my debt leaves me with enough to run the corsa and enjoy myself abit. obviously if i punted the corsa on and saved like mad i`d pay off sooner but then i`d probs top myself with boredom. plus i dont mind living at home atm, plenty of freedom and my parents dont annoy fuck out of me, and i get along sweet with my brother

I moved out at 17, on an apprentice wage of £90 p/wk and have never moved back with the rents since and am now 26
Difficult indeed, social life was limited, only just could cover my rent with a little help, run my car to get to work/college and buy enough food to last each week (Tesco Value FTW)
Looking back, I wouldn't have done it differently. Not atall, independence was worth it.
