Surely the engine could be relined ? Put it this way if it was my r8 I would be trying everything under moon to do it cheaper than 15k . At least the blokes got a nice new engine for 5k or whatever tho. Good read

its gone back to the customer now, i finished it off over a month ago. i have pics on my phone somewhere

It was quite a funny outcome in the end. Customer clocked his car finished and valeted in the rear carpark and confronted my manager - he consequently shat himself close to begged the customer to pay. I think (as far as im aware) the customer agreed to pay £1500 towards the repair, Audi contributed 70% and our center fronted the difference - knew it would happed like that

I dont get this?

The car is 5 years old and two years out of its warranty if im not mistaken.

If its gone bang out of warranty, its down to the customer IMO.

He was lucky to get anything paid for!

usually if they've been loyal customers, the manufacturer will contribute/pay for the cost of repair as a gesture of goodwill.

if the guy buys another brand new r8 from them, then what's 5-10k if they make 50k or so profit?

also, he'll tell his family/friends about it and they may be inclined to buy an audi too.

Yeah, Audi seem pretty good when it comes to good will gestures if the car has always been looked after by main dealers.

Bet if he was a loyal customer that had bought a load of bottom of the range a3 diesels then he wouldn't have anything paid for

He is (/was) a loyal customer - the car was brought from us brand new, and maintained with us also.....

The goodwill thing is supposed to be like an unspoken 5 year warranty - with a get out clause to work round block exemption. Had the R8 been under 5 years old he wouldnt have had to pay a penny

Does the sales of goods act not have a clause about a reasonable life expectancy of a product as well? I can't remember the terminology

Yes but there's no specific time markers so you can't rely on it for deadlines.

Audi quoted £1200 to do my dads flywheel on his A3.

Its 6yrs old and out of warrenty. As a goodwill gesture they charged £500 instead. Its still a rip off really. When you have an audi workshop with all the tools and any part on tap.

And my dad thinks he has had audi over

You could say the same about tesco charging you for bread since they already have it in the store. Doesn't make it particularly true though.

Probably - which is why they have covered it in this case, cheaper to fix the car than carry on messing.
