MA's were like that, no one was allowed holiday time from Jan-mid/end of Feb and were working ridiculous hours.

Not sure about Robbos but at our place it's because you will have unfamiliar people dealing with important aspects of the company accounts. Different parts of the group are divided between the staff whom should know it inside out and can report/forecast on it accurately. If you introduce new people for that period you may end up with inaccurate information which could look embarrassing on the company as well as other consequences.

It's not a lie, you can work whenever you want providing you want to. Your employer can't force you to work more than 45 hours a week, have less than 11 hours per shift, or do unpaid overtime if you don't want to.
