the problem with cash in hand is that no bugger takes it iirc?

Ie if I walked up to a dealer and wanted to pay them 30k for a brand new car I would get grief?

Also If I walked in a travel agent and booked a 7k holiday to dubai I would get grief?

So how would you get round that?

Do you mean £30k in physical cash? Or just £30k outright with no finance?

Reasons for not accepting the former is probably anti-money laundering.

30k in physical cash.

I have heard people quote various thresholds that dealers will not accept. One even as low as anything over 6k!

So if you were a lotto winner (with money under your matress) or a fishing tackle seller then how would you pay for cars, holidays etc.

you cant just pay 30k into your bank and then wander over to BMW and pay on your debit card now can you.

What do you mean how?

For a supercar like that, and it's price-tag I would've thought t'd be 10x more.

There will be ways round it. If you can prove the cash came from a legitimate source, they should accept it.

Sounds a bit wishy washy that to be honest.

Without a clear cut process and guidelines how would you prove to a dealer that it came from a legitmate source?

Piece of paper, receipt? lotto ticket? statement from a Solicitor/bank? The variables are endless.

Does anyone here work for a car dealership? Is there a limit on how much cash you accept? what guidelines are given to you?

You used to (and in some cases still do) get discounts for paying cash although this is getting smaller as most are making their money through finance deals.

My old man walked in off the street and paid cash for my old dears Merc. They had to do some checks but accepted it perfectly fine.

I don't normally laugh at Jims bullshit posts but that made me chuckle.

As said depends on how much I won, if it was £100m+ then the press would do all they could to find out anyway, just go on holiday for a month somewhere, when you come back no-one would care anyway.

Also, I would do the credit card thing with my mates, and give a considerable amount to family.

(and make my mate fight an Ostrich)

I would ask people to write to me with how much they want and what they would do with it.

So if someone wanted £10k so take their family to disney land, I would use the money to take myself to disney land. I would then send them pictures of me enjoying the holiday they wanted me to fund and a letter thanking them for the inspiration.

the main issue is cost, as opposed to regulation. for a start, they'd have to somehow get this cash to a bank and then pay the bank a huge amount in handling fee to process it, thats why. money laundering regulations are very easy to satisfy for a clean company

If you accept payments over about £10k you have to registered to do so with HMRC.

Ok so everytime the fishing tackle seller off loads a few KG of product and lets say for arguements sake he gets 20k cash per transaction. Are you trying to say he walks into his local branch of barclays and pays it in no questions asked? Again for arugements sake lets say he does this 10 times over the space of a year. He then swans around paying for 30k motors with his debit card
