i'm unsure how a freelander can ever be known as a gay car tbh.
my dad (who's married to a female) pulled out a fiat ducato that was stuck in mud and half tipped over, using his freelander a couple years back.
now i'm not sure about gary, but i think that's quite a manly thing to do.
my nan also faceplanted the mud which was rather funny. unfortunately no pics.

Never driven a Corsa on GMax so can't comment.

Not sure if I'd have one myself but drive alright as long as you don't think you're in a hot hatch! And like I said earlier they've more than enough off road capability for 99% of the people that buy them without being agricultural.

If you look on the Land Rover forums for anything freelander related, everyone calls them gay.
Why would you want a Gaylander when you can have a Discovery, that's the normal response.

I don't even think the Defenders are that good as standard off road. We've had the farms Defender stuck a few times in grassy hills just because it's rained.

This is the reason I don't spend much time on LandyZone, its a good site but there are a core of wankers who just say that every day and it never gets old.
As for the handling discussion, behave, they're all big heavy cars and you look silly going on a ragga in one.
I've owned both and I'd rate the Freelander higher for every day use including stuff like towing so long as its not too heavy. I actually think the Freelander tows nicer than the Disco, just feels nicer and less wobbly.
Disco 2 also doesn't swallow things like speed bumps very well as its got full axles, can be crashy. Freelander takes them better.
Only think I'd criticise the Freelander for is that the TD4 has no power at all low down, really slow on take off if you're pulling out of a junction plus stalls very easily.
Plus you have the internet horror story viscous diff stories. My first Freelander suffered from that and its a £300+ fix. Latest one does a bit but that wouldn't put me off buying one, otherwise its not been an expensive car to own.

How many times have you needed the centre diff locked? My old rav has a locking centre diff.
