i bought a vectra 2.0dti not so long ago, at first i thought its going to be a bit steep to run but if im honest iv hardly stopped off to put fuel in... now im no mpg freak but this is seriously cheap to run, and no, im not running red

I just dont like the way they drive, i've had a couple of VW 1.9's with various power outputs and i've only stuck with them as i used to do 30k+ a year

How can that article mention that they cost more to buy new, but then not account for them also selling for more second hand

disclaimer, these above listed examples where the first three results from my search with a 1.4 engine

They're talking about the mk6, they don't do a 2.0 petrol which isn't a vxr

I need to buy a cheap to run car, funny how i've been looking at golf and astra diesels. This thread has pointed out that it would probably be more expensive, unsure what to get now.

Can't compare costs of a 2.0l diesel to a 1.4 petrol.

Might aswel compare a metro to Ferarri.

They don't even say what the 530D equivilent petrol is that they're quoting figures for.

Probably a 1.6 going off their other biased examples.

Also not mentioning resale value.

I just don't think people looking to buy a 1.4 petrol will even be considering a 2.0 diesel and vice versa. It just stood out to me as a bit of a mis-match.

Comparing a 1.4 to a 1.9 diesel is odd. 1.4 will be shit to drive. Not even a comparison. Petrol people do this. A 1litre micra is as efficient as an a4 tdi. Yes but its a small shit box car with no spec.

What benefit are you not seeing? The diesels were more to buy new and they're now worth more second hand?

This, been looking at mk5 2.0tdi golfs, and a 1.8 petrol version (same with astras), dropping to a 1.4 would be a silly comparison.

Compared to a petrol they kind of do suck, small power band, no revs, poo sound, shorter gearing meaning constantly changing gear.

They're also paying retail for a Vauxhall.

And 10k a year which without doing maths would be difficult to justify.

Price on the day, resale price and 20k and it would be a different conversation.
