I wouldn't give it 10/10, that does require free roam.
At a guess I'm q third way through and it is becoming a little repetitive now.

It is and it isn't. If it wasn't for the hype I don't think I'd have persisted with the tedious battles.
If they did a 2nd one with an openworld environment it would be amazing. Shame they didn't do it with this one.

After three or so hours the verdict is positive, so far.
The prologue is fucking intense. Very well executed!
First bit where you're sneaking around to avoid armed guards is cool as well.
Now I've got to the bit where the infected start to show and I only had a couple of attempts at getting through the first room, both of which failed miserably.

Also, it's very much an Uncharted game, imo.
Climbing has been replaced with a crafting and leveling system, but the gameplay and style is much like Uncharted. For good and bad.

Had to turn it off last night as it annoyed the shit out of me.
Turned on Borderlands 2 as I needed to shoot some shit up after sneaking around for hours.
So far it seems to me The Last of Us is just an advanced puzzler where each area basically only has one solution to get safely through.
So it's a matter of time and luck to get it right.

I find guns blazing isn't really an option.
Gun mechanics are terrible and it's nearly impossible to hit anything at all.
And unless you get headshots it requires a lot of hits to down an enemy.
Which is an issue in it self, as there's hardly any ammo to be found (btw infected drop ammo, but guards who carry guns do not!? wtf?).
Lastly, as soon as you fire a shot you're surrounded by enemies, so you're going to lose a lot of health.
I'm giving it another couple of hours today and if it still fails to entertain me, I'm putting it up for sale.

Have to agree with you but the story makes up for it all imo.
I reckon it's like one of those films thats mediocre throughout but then the ending makes up for it all and you forget the majority of the film didn't do much. A bit like Shutter Island.

Aaaaand done! Quite enjoyed it, although it had the potential for a lot more if it wasn't such a one path story. Openworld plus choices changing how the story pans out etc. Saying that, I think it would make a good film.
