Yes if the service is good. People saying if you have to rely on tips they should get a better job makes me laugh. They'd be the first to moan if the restaurant was short staffed. In america they are taxed on their tips that's one of the reasons for adding in service charges

I don't or very rarely unless they are excellent/extremely nice . If am paying x amount for a meal I expect good service . I expect the restaurant to look after their employees and pay enough for decent people to bring my food . May sound tight but fuck it , I don't get tipped when doing my job so why should I give any extra for a service am already paying for . If I see a 10% service charge it winds me up and I'll never pay it .

Exactly, this is my first job on good wages but I never used to get tipped for doing my job which a large part of was customer service in the first place. Unless I received exceptional service I don't have any shame in walking out of a restaurant without tipping.

Is it my fault that's the case? I get taxed on my wages aswell, so why should I subsidise someone elses wage?

Theres minimum wage laws in this country for a reason. AFAIK, the UK doesn't tax or underpay waiters the same way the USA does.

I always tip in restaurants unless they've taken an age to bring the bill over... cabs get tips too. Delivery guys don't because I always pay by card, if I was handing over cash it might be different.

The thing that I don't like with the whole tax and tips debate is that it's not a guaranteed income I can't go to the bank ask for a mortgage because I earn and average £xxx a month in tips.
Most of my tips are paid through my wages so taxed as I'm a good waiter
