You'll find that some (as in, not all) of them are vehicle examiners and will have the necessary qualifications.

Either way it'd need to go to court.
I also hate the phrase 'grey area'.

I post what I feel like posting, not really worried how it comes across.

Either way I wouldn't be surprised if a new law was introduced to combat this

I guess that would depend on whether this conviction is successful.

But it is the correct term?
Theres not really a law that covers it fully, police arent sure themselves, its possible to "adapt" other laws to loosely fit.... Grey area

Nothing random about my post, just sick of reading grey area after reading the original post on fitteduk page.
I'd like to see that post.. when was it made?
I had a look through the page and I saw lots of cars with broken suspension but not that particular one.

That's my mate toms
It's going to court as there's no specific law against it
Tread is under the arch. All tread is touching the floor. Wheels don't poke more than 30mm
So in terms of the law it's all legal.
The police man at the scene said 3 point and £100 PER tyre.

No specific law as such, but I'd imagine that they've covered it under the Construction and Use regs.

I say a public flogging for being such a scene sheep would suffice, no need for the points and fine.

But they dnt have the specs of what the tyre can fit? So how can they charge him?

Basically, I'm with Kippers on this. However....
I think its pretty clear that the tyres aren't supposed to fit like that and it would be easy enough to get the specs for the tyre. There is an offence of having a vehicle (or load) in a dangerous condition, which I'd argue that stretched tyres fit into. In addition, if the tyres are over inflated (which from my understand of stretched tyres, they usually are) then there's a separate offence for that too but I'd imagine that we'd have to be talking quite a big amount, rather than 3 or 4psi.
Given that most of the thread originates from third parties, you can't be certain about what he's been reported for and people do have a tendency to fib or play things down on the internet........

Police actually have more power than MOT testers when it comes to this kind of stuff which I thinks madness, an MOT tester can't fail a car on certain things but a copper can then stop you and fine you for it and say it isn't legal, madness.

Now if only they could start prosecuting the fucking morons with suspension so low they have to slow down to an almost stand-still to drive over a stone.
What about the people who bought cars which came from the factory with poor clearance? Ban all of those too?
Yep! Straight in the crusher.
Just become immune to the sound of your bumper hitting the deck. That's what i did
Boot floor hitting the deck is something that can't be unheard

I think you took that the wrong way.
He meant with regards to an MOT test , if a car passes a test and leaves the test station it can be pulled up and be deemed illegal by police.
There seems to be two sets of rules.

But an MOT only means your car is legal at that point, which it states on the certificate. And several things aren't tested on the MOT, e.g. window tints. They're illegal but aren't an MOT failure.

Many things in life, in fact most things have a right way and a wrong way of using them, there aren't instructions or laws for every single thing so what we do is we use our experience, judgement and most importantly common sense.
The problem with stretched tyres and of course camber is none of the above is being used, people simply do it because it's "fashionable" and they are silly little sheep following the "cool crowd" .

PMSL your response is more comical, if a police officer who knows say..... FUCK ALL about cars, is deemed capable of saying weather or not a car is road worthy and given more powers to do so aswell, then what is the point in having mot tests, for a car to then leave the test station as allready said, to then be pulled over and be deemed unroadworthy by officer doofy. Madness.

Some cars are leaving the factory with slight stretch these days. Risking our lives the bastards
I've seen some wheels with wider tyres than they should have, surely that's just as dangerous if not more so
