err, that's the tourist attraction of the Lake District.......but yes, the top of the town centre was operating as if nothing was flooded. People Christmas shopping. Bottom of the Main Street is the first pic I posted which is the corner of debenhams.
also, you don't usually see the main road and roundabout in the city centre of any city flooded with nearly 8 metres of water. That's my cycle to work route, where I go every day. Hopefully it will be back useable in a few days/week.

A certain dickhead I know says I'm "just being dramatic" when I said I couldn't get out my village earlier.

You could put a positive spin on that and say 'no one can into my village''. Anti immigration sequence initiated.

After being hit by the mass power cut, I finally have electricity!!!
Total blackout, with minimal phone connectivity! Interesting to go through it. Luckily, I'm one of those to have prepped for apocalyptic shit!

Never in my life have I seen shit like this happen locally.
Lancaster, Morecambe, Heysham area, got caught in a red alert and got its pants pulled down.
Rivers breached and banks bust open.
A power sub station got flooded and 60,000 homes are without power.
Damage, road closures, traffic lights, street lights etc, homes without heat. Blackout!
Nightmare!

We have been lucky and escaped power cuts. They managed to save a sub station that was in danger of flooding which would have wiped out the electricity for Carlisle.
2015 floods are far worse than those of 2005, and we had flood defences built. Just so much more water. its started to go down now which is great although more rain on the way.
Top news on daily mail. Migrant camp in Calais now has a restaurant. Nobody cares about the north of England.

Imagine if this was the Thames, it would be quite different in terms of news coverage.
We could only dream of such coverage the north of England gets. A Hiroshima sized bomb dropped in Scotland might get page 5 in the Daily Mail.

I don't know where you lot get your news from but when I'm listening to the radio or watching the TV, the floods are number 1 or 2? If you read tripe like the Daily Mail of course they aren't arsed.

I was exaggerating. I like to read the Guardian personally. The Somerset flooding from a year ago had a lot more coverage though.

Perhaps a bit harsh in my reply Ellis sorry But I think it has been covered. IF the Thames floods I'm fucked

But in all seriousness, must be more in the mind now than previously? Thames flood defence is more for sea rushing in though is that correct?
I am eternally grateful to live 500ft above sea level and a long way away from any rivers.

We were maybe 3-4 inches off being flooded on the weekend. New house is a good bit higher up so that's good.

Nasty. My mum and dad were due to go yesterday but have postponed.
No where near as bad in York but the rivers are up and cycle tracks and riverside underwater. Pub down by the river under water and the river near my house is up over the parks and cycle tracks. They spent a fair bit on flood defences after the last time but it has never up there anyway.

I think we're on emergency generators now.
Power has supposedly been restored to nearly all residents.
2 deaths, 1 guy swept away in river, 1 not sure if totally related from car crash?
Power maybe interrupted again?
We have Cameron coming to look, yay :O
