Nice cars imo as standard but then I wouldn't buy anything like it it's not powerful enough for 1 and why you gonna buy one of these if you're into modifying, cos' with these 'kitted up' as standard cars (like the mg's etc aswell) you aint gonna bother changing bumpers etc.
Duno why I've just wrote that
for me it aint powerful enough and can't imagine it to be that tunable, would rather have a 1.6 sport for the money, handling can be sorted out with a set of coilovers and some other bits, which if you are in2 car modifying you will amost certainley buy.

anyone care to dissagree on this point? NO!!
yes the older cars did not have such high emissions, and therefore no need for a catalytic converter, however should modern cars be moving forward or backwards in terms of performance?
Answers on a postcard please!
Insurance grouping??? WTF?? when did this come into the conversation?
The GSI is down as 9.5 the sport on parkers is 10.2 same as fiesta...now we all agree that these times are not right..I can safely say the corsa did it below 10.2 and so does the fiesta...
The weight will matter with ABS and traction control...so glad we agree on that.
As for what would I prefer...I would say I prefered the refinement and interior of the corsa...but everything else I prefer in the fiesta...the exterior looks a lot better standard which what both cars were/are you get lovely multi spoke alloys as standard rather than those horrible 3 spokes vauxhall put on...sideskirts are standard..fog lamps are standard...mesh grill standard....the drive is a lot nicer..the handling is superb...if I could switch the interior of the corsa into the fiesta that would be my ideal.

The EARLY GSi (C16XE) hit 60 in 8.9. The later GSi n Sport (X16) hit it in about 9.5.
THe 1.25 isn't far off a 1.4 16v X14XE Corsa, but then the 1.4 16v isn't far off a 1.6 S fiesta.
I'd say teh fezza handles better, but the 1600 would beat it performance wise (Dunno how fast they go top end, but not enuff to leave D4 ageeesssss ago).

seriously daimo I have owned both and if there is a difference in performance its minimal...it does do a greater top speed...never maxed it though but if feels like it will do a better top speed...at higher speeds the corsa felt breathless...where as the fiesat feels like it has a lot more to give.
Ive had it doing 120 on clocks and would have gone a bit faster...think when I had my sport it maxed out at 120.

Thats cos the X16 only does 119mph
But thats due to the air restricitions of the inlet manifold. Bin that, and u'll be travelling much quicker.
AS i say, unlce had a 1.25 and i although i pulled from it, wasn't by much. PRetty much the same when i went up against a 1.6 fezza, but i was the one just loosing ground.
'd still say the Corsa was the quick in a Istraight line. Just much smoother, which is the way the engine is designed.
U'd never get a 1.6 fezza up to 240bhp without forced inductionor NOS. The 1.6 engines are serioulsy de-tuned.

as my msn name currently states: zetec-s: just say NO
theyre pikey cars
everyone who drives em thinks theyre invincible
everyone that drives them thinks theyre the fastest car ever
the engine is laughable for a 1.6 16v as it just revs out
sum1 on a fiesta forum claimed that simply with an induction kit on, a zetec s would keep up with a saxo vts - yeh rite
thats just an insight into the 'zetec-s' mentality
just say NO

@ Gambit.
But i'd still rather take the Corsa any day just for the cars potential. The Fezza doesn't really have any.
Only way to get decent power is to bung a 2.0litre Zetec n turbo it, and as i say, sorry, but styling wise, every kit just looks the same. I know the same can be said for a lot of corsa kits, but then there are a lot of different ones too.

arsed, just throwing my 2pence worth in
i seriously hate zetec-s' tho, a 1.6 16v engine in a modern supposedly 'hot hatch' should really perform better, same can be said for corsa 1.6 16v sport but thats got more potential.
106 gti and VTS are relevant to my point im tryin 2 make as they're the banch mark for this genre of hot hatches, fast, fun, and cheap.
the ford is slow, weak, but i'll give it points for the fact that it looks ok standard.
wudnt have one personaly tho

I feel where straying from the point here!
VTS GTI are different league to Sport and Zetec-S...
None of this potential crap I dont mod my cars much as I change quite often...
Boils down to this..If you had to have one car standard what would it be?
1. Fiesta Zetec-S
or
2. Corsa Sport 1.6

Daimo that quote was meant for sxi boy.
dont deny the Corsa has a better engine with more potential and a better dash but I would say the interior was any better. Personally I find my ZS a much better drive than my old Corsa

Now that is virtually standard except for the clear clusters I think...now there is no corsa looking that good as standard!

if i was after one of those 2 cars id be buying it with a view to modding it, but even if i was forced to keep it standard then i'd take the corsa cos it's faster

This IMO is a pointless post, there is simply no "better" car, just peoples different opinions.
My mate has a ZS and has done some subtle mods to it, handles amazingly, looks superb (IMP blue) i dont think there as slow as everyone maks out, but then this arguing over 1600cc cars that barely crack 60 in 10 seconds seems to me, a little pointless?
I personally (thats right MY opinion) dont liek fords at all. So i would have the corsa over it anyday. I just prefered the corsa for looks modding potential and the interior on corsas is 2nd to none. (that bit is FACT)
But i do think they are lovely cars, make a great noise when a piperX is added Well loud!
