Some of the figures being banded about for Christian Benteke are insane, £25m / £30m.
What a joke!

I just tweeted something very similar: "One 20+ goal season in the PL and Christian Benteke is one of the most in-demand players about. #Unproven #NotConvinced"
Agree Nath, although I think Chelsea might get him.
It's made me angry hearing Spurs being linked with him and £25m in the same sentence, just because a few days ago it was reported that Levy won't pay Valencia's £25m asking price for Soldado.
Then one of my mates tries to tell me Benteke is better than Soldado

Except for when he won the PFA award two years before, yeah.

Similar with Demba Ba. He's gone to average at best. Difference is he didn't sell for an over inflated price.

Probably not, although if you have to spend £25m to get a striker for a team wanting to finish top 4, I'd much rather its spent on someone abit more proven, i.e. Soldado

I'd rather 20m for Benteke, the guys a beast, and if you're talking about proven, he's done it (albeit 1 season) in the premier league. He's 22, and he'd fit in well at Spurs. Like a good adebayor.
Soldado has done well in a Spain.

Soldado would still have to prove he can cut it in this league, Benteke has done that at an average team. I'm in no way saying Benteke is a better overall player but having youth and a nice scoring record in the prem (even if it is only a season) will arouse a lot of interest. No doubt Villa will get £20m+ for him!

Soldado is a great finisher, who still has his best years ahead of him. But £25m seems about right.
Benteke is a young, quick, powerhouse who can score with his feet or head and caused major problems against the best defenses the PL has to offer. The fact he was in a team who struggled against relegation until the last couple of games just adds to his value.

To knock a 17m Darren Bent out the side, you must be good

Benteke is a beast and strikers of that ilk always command big money but £25 million is silly money.
He cost them £7 million and had a good season, anything over double their money would be reasonable.

I do wonder about you guys on here sometimes....
We all know about over inflated prices/transfers, and how 'logically' a player is worth X amount etc but football doesn't always tend to work logically.
If Aston Villa get 25 million pounds for him I for one won't be surprised. Is he worth that amount? Not for me to say exactly. But judging by signings and prices for the likes of James Milner, Henderson, Carroll etc, I'd say given his age, what he did last season in not a great side, the price of Benteke isn't too bad all considering.
He basically kept Villa up on his own as well.
In a better side I'd say he will get a lot better as well, I mean he's only 22.
Sure it could of been a 'one season wonder' but I don't agree with that statement.
I mean also, Fernandinho who is 28 cost around 30 million pounds. As we all know, prices vary on what club is interested. The now 25 million was the 15 million of 5 years ago.

As has been stated a million times, if you want to use the 'Carrol, Henderson, Milner' Scale then every transfer on the market becomes silly and clubs go out of business.
You can't pick a couple of over-inflated deals and use that as an example, you could easily say he's only worth 500k as that's all Arsenal paid for Anelka or he's only worth 2.75 million as that's all they paid for RVP.
Illogical logic.

Wanyama on a flight to Southampton to complete 12.5 million deal.
Hopefully we see some of that reinvested.
