They dont cover modified cars do they Chris? Best bet would be to ring up some specialists like Brentacre, Flux, HIC etc

£335 and it might be more, and you're still on original rings and stem seals?

Loads of money to keep a 1200 running.

Stem seals will probs be done with the HG?

Doesnt plan to keep that engine much longer and no hassle of getting dirty e.t.c.

I would pay that!

why would stem seals be done same time as HG? surely they would only do that if you requested it?

We're going to see if they've been affected by the head gasket going but with only 60k on the clock I'm hoping they aren't bad! I haven't got the time, tools or any mechanical knowledge to do anything myself really and I'd rather have my car back ASAP! Plus I could have always bought another 1.2 engine and it could have blown up again! I didn't want to do it but I kind of need to :/

Because they come in a HG kit.

He's going to check your valve stem seals why doesn't he just change them? He's going to have to compress valve springs and remove collets ect to check them

Edit: my HG kit came with head gasket, head bolts, stem seals, camshaft oil seals, inlet manifold gasket, exhaust manifold gasket everything to completely rebuild my head. All GM and it was only £40 inc postage.

Does that price include stem seals? Just because they're in the kit doesn't mean they're getting fitted.

Either way, different engine would have been cheaper and no less reliable, insurance salvage comes from cars which were on the road driving around with valid MOTs, so they can't be that bad. I know you're trying to make the case for paying that guy to keep a 1200 on the road, I just don't think that is the best route.

Although that does sort it, which is a solution.

IDK what they are doing i just know whilst the heads of hes going to check for anything else that needs replacing! Sean, if its only £40 why couldn't you give me a hand doing it and save myself £300? :/
