I think its been like that from the beginning, I've just never noticed before. Adjusting the gear linkage today I couldn't get all the gears, so started investigating and thats what I found.
I was told that Vauxhall don't sell linkage parts on there own though and the whole lot is about £150? So for now I've packed it up with sealer so hopefully it'll be strong enough to hold for now.

Got another bit done today, very nearly done now
New gearbox oil and gasket,
Part number for anyone interested,
Differential pan off and gasket sat in place
Then re-fitted, took almost the full 2 litres of oil to fill the box!
Then after that I put the brake fluid in and bled the brakes, pedal feels good and firm but will need to take it a drive to see how good it is. Tomorrow I will be fitting the gear linkage back on and then that leaves the seats to be bolted in and get an MOT booked
