In a rear wheel drive car booting it off the line will cause the weight to shift to the rear and hopefully help the traction... in a FWD booting it off the line will reduce traction!

The VXR is quicker / better handling / quicker round a track than a Golf GTi end of. (Note not saying the Golf is bad at all)
yeh i totally agree, but at the end of the day. you want a good quility car. that feels £20k - £22k's worth not something that doesn't. 
now you are just being pedantic, the build quality in the Vauxhall will no doubt be top stuff, and has been for the last 5 years with new Vauxhalls/Opels/Holdens. And i dont think its more than 20k is it?

only jokin mate  but seriously, you dont need to keep hammering home how crap the Astra was, because it quite obviously wasnt, and if Autocar (a fully respected mag) can call it the new GTi king, then it cant be all that bad surely?? im waiting on HSV to announce they will be doing a HSV Astra

its a 240bhp FWD car... it was never going to handle brilliantly.
however, its 0.5 of a second behind the Megane... which everyone says was superb on track 
Would like to see one up against a Fiat coupe 20v turbo round a track, people always say how refined and composed they are... I bet the VXR would be a match.
