agree with this , just bought a 159bhp vts , they only weigh 890kgs compared to about an xe corsa 1200 odd . I love it , handles like a go cart round the bends and hopefully want give me as much expense on running costs on as an xe , an idea i was toying with .
yes btw i have now got a vts a i know people will now hate me but

1200 kg, what fucking planet do you live on?? a completely standard VTR weighs around 920-930kg's dry, an XE Corsa will be about 1000kg's, not a massive difference. an XE Corsa will be faster than a VTS, end of.

its a pointless discussion anyway, as deep down, we all know that 106 and vts's are like imprezzas, indestructible rocket ships. the end

Typical nice friendly reply there......
Mine weighed 1.02 tonnes. Thats with all my chrome (weighs more), rear discs, V6 up front, smooth filled boot, stienmetz skirts (weigh Loads!!!), 16" alloys, two magnex rear cans, all exhaust framework, all the sound deadening in the car still etc.. Plus over half a tank of juice.
A normal interiored 2.0 16v Corsa will weigh about 950-970kg tops. Kitted ones will weigh more and have a much reduced road pace. Also, if you have 17"s on a 2.0 then u'll suffer big time at low speeds. Espcially if kitted.
Most kitted and 17" rimmed 2.0 Corsas will have a hard time against a good running 16v Saxo till higher speeds.

From a rolling start 80-100 the Corsa irrespective of weight should of pulled away seeing as the Saxo had people in the back.
The Saxo VTS is a very able car but lacks torque hence has to be buzzing to get anywhere. I've driven a Saxo on a regular basis and can telll you with one person in the car is feel nippy but as soon as even ONE person is in the car you can feel a notable decline in performance.
I havent read the whole thread basically what happend here is your mate dropped down a cog and you didnt and got pissed on.

Always ran 16"s with the 2.0. 1.4 engine I ran 15"s then moved to 16"s..
15"s is the best wheel for everything. 16"s is the compromise between looks and performance. 17" is purley for looks. 18", why bother with a 2.0...

i agree that goes someway towards it, if an XE is producing bang on factory 150bhp and weighs 995kg (being very conservative as thats for a 1.4 16v)
say a gti is making factory 125bhp and weighs 850kg
the corsa = 153bhp/t
the gti = 150bhp/t
3 bhp aint gonna make any diff and some gti's/vts's came out with 130bhp
Steve is the only one talking sense here!
My mate has a clio 182, over 50bhp more then my gti and on a standing start to 110mph there was about 3 car lengths in it so two cars with harldy any power difference and minimal weight difference there would be no difference!
If anyone with an XE in the north east wishes to carry out some 'tests' then give me a bell, i'm game.

in that case:
the corsa = 150bhp/1.25 tonnes = 120bhp/t
the gti = 125bhp/0.925tonnes = 138bhp/t
