ive driven the 197. Was very impressed and we hardly ever see them back at the dealership at all. brakes felt great, handling- mint. v.strong tried and tested engine. The only possible advantage the corsa has is the price. but its only a couple of hundred difference and your getting soo much more with the clio.

You can get the Clio for £14k new though, the Corsa is £15.5k at best.

So that you can drive your car without a seatbelt and not die so hard when you crash it.

I don't think Vauxhall have done too badly, Renault have been building powerful small cars since about 1980, Vauxhall, er, haven't

Think the Corsa VXR is probably a fantastic little car. You would have great fun in it. I wouldn't buy one because I am not a fan of Vauxhall's styling anymore. Don't know what thier designers are thinking these days

Had a tinkle in a mates 182 cup against a 197, and the 182 pulled away easily, not sure if the 197 driver was any good but we thought it would be closer!

So is it fair to say the the VXR is not 'that' great a package out of the box then? As daimo said the potential for tuning is huge, but IC, exhaust, remap & coilvers and ARB's if necessary is going to amount to a few k before you know it your getting on for 18k possibly?

With the clio looks like you getter a much better package from the box, but any N/A tuning on this will cost thousands to get any worthwhile performance increase.

If it were me and i wanted one from new would have to be the clio. In 3/4 years time though buying a VXR and going with aforementioned mods would be a seriously tempting idea.

so we have :

Clio: 197 Bhp
Corsa: 197 Bhp
Leon Cupra R: 225 Bhp
Golf GTI: 197 BHp
and last off the ST 225.

Surly the extra weight of the bigger engined cars such as the leon and focus would make al the cars above almost the same on the road? maybe not on track tho.

And if there is only .2, .4 secs difference in any times set buy the cars above then the factors effecting which one you buy would be.

A. Looks.
B Price?

I would imagine the Corsa is the better car to drive on the road due to the torque and easier to get the most out of for average people. Still wouldn't buy one though.

But I wish they did the Clio's body with the Corsa's engine and seats!

Clio and Corsa are not in the same class as the Golf and Leon Cupra and ST. You need to put the Astra VXR and Megan in that class.

Clio, Corsa, Mini, Fiesta, that Suzuki thing etc all are superminis.

Out of the list you've given, i'd take the ST or the Golf. Depends if its goingto be left standard, if your tuning it etc...

Just watched the vid..

i would still pick the corsa as it looks better IMO and it wouldn't see a track if i had it either so in real road driving terms there would be nothing in it..not that i would be racing on the road....Stiffen that corsa suspension a bit and
