In this one? http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/4137/dscn0289dp8.jpg I'll try and get some better pics soon, but at the moment it means lying down in snow and I don't fancy that much

Just rang the scrappy I've been to before and they have one, want £40 for it

Will try and get my dad to drive me there tomorrow If it hasn't snowed again

Any ideas how much a ball joint will set me back if they have one?

Bumpbumpbump.

Any ideas on prices for a ball joint?

My dad wants to picj the axle up Saturday, I think I've managed to convince him that I'll be able to fit it.

Only thing is, though, my Haynes manual says you need to replace the pivot bolts with new ones, doesn't say why. Anyone know what size they are etc, or shall I just use them again?

I had my bottom ball joint replaced for last years MOT. It cost £9 plus £22 labour.

I didn't change any bolts on my rear beam when I swapped it over. Haynes are anal with things, I wouldn't worry about it.

Defo get wheel bearings though, they are only £8 from a Motor spares shop.

Cool, I'm guessing the bearings go in the drums? Haven't opened up drums in a while

I was thinking about bushes as well, because I can really, but again Haynes says you need some special tools, are they easy to put in or would it have to go to a garage?

So many questions

Yea they go in the drums.

I wouldn't worry about bushes, they can be a pain to get out at times.

If you need a bottom balljoint mine cost me £9 from a local motorfactors. Was a pain to change though but can be done in less than an hour.

I didn't bother with bushes or anything. Starts getting more complicated by doing that. And again I didn't bother with a new balljoint. Check the one on the beam obviously but 9/10 times it won't need changed.

And yeah they go in the drums, just bash it out the drum with a screwdriver or something similar, and bosh the new one in, sorted!

Cheers chaps, bearing in the middle, aye?

I think he meant the front ball joint, and I think he might be right taking a closer look at the pics, I'm not entirely sure that the front wheel is sitting right. Looks a bit funny to me. That did hit the kerb as well but fortunately not that hard, don't think there's any more than a tiny scratch on it.

Was gonna put the steelies on today but it's not stopped snowing yet

No mate that's your stub axle.

Bearing is in the drum cover but it does go around the stub axle.

Sits in the drum cover here:

And this is my bearing that melted itself to the stub axle causing my wheel to come off

Ahh, got ya I just Googled for "inside drum brake"

That doesn't look so good Obviously, seeing as the wheel fell off

Just say you want a rear wheel bearing, they'll know what you mean.

Don't go to Halfords, they wanted £22 for the same bearing

Cool, I'll see if the scrappies have one, maybe take an extra tenner or something.

Would it be an idea to check the one that's already on the new axle? Providing it still has the brakes on, anyway. If now I'll have to go to town and get some female torx sockets

Picked up the new axle

Looks like it has an ARB fitted or something.

Not as heavy as I thought it'd be either Gonna ask them to swap the drums over, though, because these ones are a bit battered. Will get a bearing from the motor factors tomorrow though.

Yep, basically the other night my mum and dad started getting properly moody and said that it wouldn't go right if I tried it, and if (read: when) it goes wrong we can't drive it to the garage on two wheels. I won't go into too much detail but my dad said he'll pay for it until I get my first pay packet from this new job. Gotta get the steelies on todayand down the garage tonight, though.

Really annoyed because I wanted to do it
