sounds like the majority of you are getting done through messages on facebook/myspace etc and nothing to do with CS. There was a disclosure the other day about spoofing SSL websites so maybe they are doing you over that way so you think the website is real.

I was reading a popular imagebased forum the other day and someone was posting a fuck load of facebook accounts and passwords.
Do you use the same password for facebook as the e-mail account you use for it?

Can I just make this point:
When you log in to ANYTHING secure, weather it be hotmail, your bank, facebook etc etc, just do two simple checks:
1. Make sure you address bar agrees with the website that you are visiting, for example:
This is a fake site, designed to collect your banking details and use them (I get a few of these through email, telling me my account is suspended and to click here to log in)
See the address? Nothing to do with A&L.
Real:
The other thing to do is to check that the secure website your signing into has a valid security ceritifcate. On IE 7 this is shown by the address bar and by changing the colour of the address bar. In IE 6 this is shown by a packlock on the bottom status bar:
Taking these simple steps will help to reduce you being hacked a fair amount. No your not immune but there are steps that you can do that will help.

I'm probably stating the obvious here, but here are some tips for making yourself more safer online, that I follow myself:
- Before you do anything online, make sure you have a decent anti virus program with up to date virus definitions. Always make sure you do a full system scan at least once a week - these take ages if you have a lot of files on your computer so schedule it to run at a time when you aren't going to be using it (i.e. bedtime). If you go on porn sites or use P2P filesharing programs regularly then this is mandatory really!
- Make sure that you are running both a software firewall (Windows Firewall for example) AND a hardware firewall (most modern broadband routers have firewall protection built in), this will slow down hackers trying to access a computer by attempting to connect to certain ports on random IP addresses.
- Don't store passwords to websites in your web browser (set your browser's configuration to delete ALL your "cookies" each time you close it down).
- Make yourself familiar with "phishing" emails. These are emails that claim to be from someone you may have an online account with that you use regularly such as PayPal or your online banking which tell you that you need to "verify" your details or change your password. The key is to check the website address (i.e. instead of https://www.paypal.com it might say http://www.paypal.sdftsafk.cn, for example).
- Finally, if you get some random person trying to add themselves to your contact list on MSN, don't add them unless you know who they are - it's not going to be some bird you can chat up, if it's an unsolicited request it's most likely a hacker...

Gf cant remember who she emailed on my behalf but they asked a few questions about who is in my contacts list, address, DOB.
Emailed me this this morning -
Hello Marc,
Thank you for writing to Windows Live Technical Support. This is Julius and I understand that you think that your [hotmail address] account has been hacked. I know how important it is to resolve your issue.
Marc, please be advised that I could not confirm whether an unauthorized individual accessed your account or provide you any information about who may have done so, as all Windows Live Hotmail member information is confidential. I can only release it to law enforcement officials when served with a subpoena or criminal search warrant, in compliance with the Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA).
We have successfully verified the data that you provided. We have sent a Password Reset e-mail message to the e-mail address that you asked us to respond to, [my email].
Before you try to reset your password, we suggest that you clear your browser's cache and delete cookies. For information about clearing the cache, visit the following Microsoft Web site: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/278835/en-us
To reset your password, open the e-mail message that has the subject "Reset your Windows Live ID password." Follow the instructions on that e-mail to reset your password.
Followed the instructions in their other email and then reset my password

Ive just asked her to try and remember what she googled.
Trying to remember who was in my contacts list was hard when i thought about it So i chose some random names (like Kuldip and Jaspal) as they arent too common.
Also asked the subject of emails in my inbox Which i didnt know either
