I think the title is probably used slightly different office to office, but in ours the Technicians are normally people who deal with a lot of the drawing and detailing work. Where as Architectural Assistant is quite often the title given to people who are on their placement works and working towards being Architects.

At my work its basically the same duties as an architect (on smaller jobs)... but with less pay But Simon is correct when it comes to the bigger projects.

same places i have been
first office i was a technician (cad monkey) doing as told and doing the detailed drawings
second office i was senior technician designing all the jobs along with little input from architect (boss)
he dealt with the big jobs and i drew them up
current work with my dad. he has no qualifications but we both design and do drawings for all jobs, 90% is all one off housing/extensions etc
but basically architects do the same job but have studied so can make everything sound far fancier with great big words
my incentives are flexibile holidays and overtime when wanted and hopefully a buisness to take over when i get rid of the old man

bit of excitement! I'd LOOOVEE to do the crowd control on horseback like, that was always my dream, but unfortunately durham constabulary doesnt have a mounted section. To be honest though, being a normal officer on the street, responding to the 999 jobs etc is just so exciting, you never know whats goina happen!

trainee/assistant can be the same although not everyone works to become an architect. i was a trainee and i went to college for two years and if my director allows it i will be going to uni for the degree and that gets you the technologist qualification.

Emergency care centre (A&E) Nurse in the third biggest trauma centre in the UK. some bad times but absolutely mint most of the time!
Examples:
Good times - helping out in a major trauma
bad times - going to meet the helicopter landing with a code orange and the A&E consultant not arriving in time!! Leaving me on my own, nearly needed the trolley myself!!
