no, in surely it would be faster with traction?

then surely pointless spinning up, as it would be faster with less power, or better boost control?

I went to pod last year with a friend from work and he did a 15.3 in his corsa D sri turbo! I thought it would of been quicker tbh! But thats what time it did so...

nic - i guess all the rubber being layed down then it rains, and gets hot some how makes it slippery

a normaly road has more grip, everytime there, if i do the same launch it will just spin alot easier

a corsa d sri turbo is only 150bhp, suprised it done it that quick tbh

Very true, almost lost to my mates saxo vtr (modded) the other day

He had a very aggressive launch (smoke and everything ) compared to me pulling away at 3k (which in the civic is nothing...). 0-50 he was actually ahead! Finally reeled him in when the vtec kicked in

I think the grip available at Santa Pod varies massively with the prep and weather conditions. I went there with my E30 M3 that would struggle to spin in 1st in the dry on the public roads, yet at the pod was twitching in third and a nightmare to launch. That was on a very cold day at the Pod early in the year. Yet when I went there with the Nova for FHM magazine and we had to park up on the strip and get out of our cars for photos, the track was so sticky it was pulling my trainers off my feet (literally) and pulling away after the photos it was like having the handbrake on!

If people warmed up their tyres with a proper burnout, the stickyness would be vastly improved.

A quick 2 second spin will not do anything.

Also, when your on the road, most of the time you are driving (funnily enough) hence your tyres are warming up.

When you get to santa pod, you have gone no-where. Your tyres are cold and don't have much grip. A prolonged burnout to get the heat into the tyres makes them sticky. Put hot sticky tyres on a sticky track and it will work.

Cold days are the worst at pod though, cold tyres, cold track = no grip at all, not even if its laced with Loctite all the way up.

im sorry? Whats the point in doing a quarter mile then? It is actually very relevant a half of a second or a second as thats what you are racing against. The time it takes to get from a standing start to the end of a quarter mile.

ive run at pod twice .. first time i went grip was about the same or slightly worse than the roads, second time i went it was amazeingly grippy 60ft times first time were 2.3 - 2.5 .
second time i went they were around 2.1 - 2.2 thats with road tyres too so didnt think it was too bad.

and the second time i had my 40 profile tyres on which i would of thought would have less grip than 45s
