It is a weird 1 tbh. When doing online quotes on comparison sites, they actually try encourage you to add an older driver to reduce the premium cost.
I think its when the policy is in an older drivers name and your the named driver, but use the car most of the time.

Even if that was the case I'd like to see them prove who drives it most of the time

You have a policy holder then named drivers.
If he phones the insurance and tells him he's using it for commuting they won't give him a policy unless it's his policy with dad as a named driver.

Yeah what the fuck are you lot talking about?
I'm named driver on both the Astra & Polo as it's cheaper for Rach to get insurance through the women only companies and have me as a named driver, my mates and their missus all do the same as does my sister and her husband.

If you were the main driver that's illegal, as said though, you can't really ever get caught.
I wouldn't do that because 1, I like having loads of my own no claims, 2 insurance is cheap anyway.

so for example. my olds have 1 car. my old man has had the policy for many many years with my old dear as a named driver. my old dear drives that car a lot more than my old man as he works away, or works from home when he is back. now thats illegal is it? i dont see why or how thats illegal.
the policy has your name on it. you are covered to drive that vehicle?
edit, forgot a ? as it looked like a statement

I don't use the VXR during the week and I prefer it that way, if I drove it in traffic I would grow bored and tired of being in it.
But having it there for those beautiful days and road trips is so awesome
this.
i grew bored of my focus and it got all shitted up being on the road every day throughout winter.
ruined the experience really

There is no law that specifically prohibits it, therefore the practice itself isn't illegal. You would commit an offence if, in the event of an accident, your company refused to honour the claim as you would them not be insured against third party risks contrary to Road Traffic Act section 143.
But they have to refuse the claim first, and they have to have reason to do so. And that reason needs to be legitimate enough for them to nullify the contract under which the policy was set up.
In reality, most people in most cases would be fine. But obviously insurance companies are interested in not paying out and have been known to try and avoid doing so.

It techincally is yes, the main driver of the car should be the policy holder.
Mine have the cars insured the same btw, you couldn't ever get caught unless they followed you for a year but you're not supposed to do it.

Depends on the company! I often get the option of who is the car registerd to and who is the main driver, and have different in both

Insurance fronting is classed as fraud, fraud is illegal.
Insurance companies also class fronting as illegal.
