From what i can gather the Road Traffic Act states that for an exhaust to be defective or unusable then it has to have been purchased illegally, anything purchased legally, is legal.

doesn't always work! i done this and they stated they couldn't understand why they couldn't find me... but they sat and waited n pulled me on my return trip! ended up getting 3 points for poor visiblilty! as my fish n chips steamed up my window as they were checking the car over ha! cba to mess about with court at the time had other pressing matters on my hands
