Dunno I guess some people just really like cars

So long as you've got a roof over your head & food on the table that your content with you might as well squander the rest on something your going to enjoy?

i really am appreciating your imput in this colin, although colin is better off than i ever will be, i will be on what i consider a good salary, my gf is on good salary and once my loan is paid in 3 years i will have no debt what so ever and be 200+ a month better off.

colin stated as id already decided pretty much, when i get a van, i will sell the cupra as i rarely use it to go anywhere but work so may aswell drive the gfs yaris. once im qaulified we would be on near enough 40k a year between us which is more than enough to buy a house. people talk about tyres and stuff as if its some thing id use daily lol it would get 2k a year if it was very very lucky.

anyways people are still missing the point the ferrari is a dream/goal, its one of those things that quite probably may never happen or if it does quite late in life, but its something that i would have incentive to save towards... i may only save a five k in the first few years but that will be five k i wouldve wasted if i wasnt working towards something.....

see my point....

also its a 30k car ffs, colin is going to spend that sort of cash on a focus ffs

Im only a car mechanic on 26k a year it took me six years to save for my first porsche and three years to buy the ferrari 328 gts that i now have if you want a car bad enough save for it and consider buying a classic which wont lose any value.

Its certainly not a daft idea at all when you consider if you buy the right car it wont go down in value.

Something like a modernish BMW 330 could loose 2-3k a year in depreciation.

Suddenly an 8k major service doesnt seem too harsh!!

Servicing costs
Using 2005 prices from a well known specialist, the following information should give you some idea of the approximate servicing costs of an F355.

Servicing should be carried out according to the official schedule. In many cases this means servicing on time rather than on mileage. The annual lube service exists for this purpose, but for items like the cambelt, this *must* be done on time regardless of mileage covered since the last time it was done. The costs listed below are taken from a couple of well known independants in the South of England.

Annual Lube £295
6k Service £550
Major Service (18k) £850
Cambelt + Major Service £1085

^^ Cheaper than an E46 M3

If you come back on here within the next 10 years and have bought a 30 or 40k Ferrari through saving alone I'll chop my car up in to little pieces and eat it

Loans or winning money dont count. Has to be by the method you stated at the start of this thread... and an F355.

Fair plays fella. If you aim for the stars you may just reach the clouds and all that.

People coming out with crap that it is unrealistic really need to re-evaluate. The same people saying that are probably the same people who live month by month. The World is changing and you can't even get a mortgage nowadays without a 10% dipper as a minimum (or 25% on a BTL).

My main concern would be running costs rather than the initial outlay. If you have a major breakdown on a car of that prestige and age it's a number generator for the garage involved.

My mate recently worked on a Ferrari, I forget what type it was but the electric windows weren't working and to fix them you have to replace both the drivers and passenger switches - £800 just for the switches.

If you wanted to pop £400 a month aside for 10 years you wouldn't have £40k, you would have £48k.

A safer option would be a new Lambo, about £700 a month after paying a deposit and you then have a warranty. I suspect there aren't many generic warranty covers available for a car of that type and age - the F355?

Hell, Daimo (or his Mrs) has lost more annually on a VXR than you look to save so why not?

Oh, I just googled BT and they run a share save scheme - get in it. Win-win scenario and also get into SIPS which is taken from your pre-tax pay, it's a licence to print money, well, pretty much.

So if john d has a Ferrari in 10 years mwg will eat his car.

I will add to this. If BT are 'bust' in 20 years I will eat my arse with a spoon.

Colon - I keep telling myself I'll buy another flat/house to rent or a 996 or something but I just blow the money

We had a house, flat and a garage for a while... now down to a house, garage and share of another flat.

I have lots of regrets... I spent SO much money on the Corsa(s) and Supra when I first started working - If i had saved 50% of that I'd have had about 2 flats bey the time is was 25

Feck knows what I'd spend money on if i didnt waste it all on cars, beer and casinos

Infact, looking at the share prices they have been increasing steadily for a few months since that brief US crash.
