Not really skint, just makes sense to wait and save more. I could've gone again in my car as it is, dropped another grand on the trip and a few hundred on new brakes and tyres etc, but I'd of still been in a car the same as last year.

Or... I could not go this year, leave my car in a non track worthy state (bald tyres, fucked brakes etc) and save for next year, either to go in my car + r888's etc. Or to go in whatever I decide to buy (Equiv of Caterham R400 hopefully).

but it is tho.

Paul, I know what you mean, hence I didnt go this year. Being made redundant and then going snowboarding didn't help, but saving for next year is my excuse.

To be honest, for me it's just part of it... Everytime I go I want to be faster than I was before.

1st time 9:46, 2nd time 9:14, 3rd time 8:54.

Ok the cars and mods are changing too, but there's nothing like that first lap when you return, where you're no where near the pace and you realise how hard you must of had to push the year before!

If I return with my s2000 and semi slicks I want sub 8:30.

Of course, I love the place, atmosphere, meals, drinks, banter etc too ... but I need a target to make it really 'fun' for me. It's that feeling relaxing in the pub after giving it your all and going sideways through foxhole at 135 mph (AND SURVIVING) that makes it all worth it when I drink my pint that evening

Unfortunately this part of my brain can't be switched off, I will always push to beat myself. The problem is, the car was at the limits before on standard budget tyres... Therefore... at bare minimum for a return trip in my car I need semi slicks.

^^ and I'll continue returning till I can do high 7 minute laps and then I'll not give a shit anymore.

Will probably get my laptime tattoo'd to my forehead.

We'll see son... I've never crashed / spun on track to date. R888's should make sub 8:30 fairly easy. The difference with the 106 with standard tyres and R888's was immense and netted me 32 seconds difference.

As a comparison for how competitive I am with myself, I've got two karting events in September and I'm currently on a strict diet and exercise plan to lose weight.

I'm already under minimum weight, but the lighter I am, the more choice I have on where to place my leaded weight in the kart.

Taking things seriously and beating myself = fun. I used to do it all the time on the ps2 with ghost cars, would set a good time, then try to beat it. Would be happy when I beat it, but then would have a new ghost to beat.

In the end, you end up doing lap after lap to beat an absolute prick of a ghost car (which was infact yourself).

^^ p.s. this is why I don't care about 'beating other people' as some people used to think.

I only care about beating myself / doing my best. As long as I feel I've done the best I can, I couldn't gaf about anything / anyone else.

I'd take the overnight ferry from Hull to Rotterdam if you're going from Cumbria.
