FFS are you lot completely thick?? I've got a cover on mine as we speak..I'll go down in the morning and take it off..walla no frosted windows

NEVER use de icer and if I don't use the cover I just fill the kettle with warm water and drain over the windows...walla no frosted windows

And I don't use de-icer either. Just start the car up then scrape the ice when its started to defrost a bit.

probably removed it to save weight like when he was going to remove the rear seats and replace them with his mothers living room carpet mounted to a 25mm thick piece of MDF

FFS, they must sell millions and millions of bottles of de-icer every year. I have never heard of it doing anything to anyones paint?

where has this rumour come from and why does anyone believe it?

A chemical can dissolve ice and that is exactly what De-Icer does.
