It should be impossible for a company like Sony to have this sort of problem, and even if they do they should be back up within hours.
Shocking service, only slight upside is it doesn't cost £50 a year to not have it.

Id rather pay 50 quid a year not have this downtime, and not have my personal details and credit card info stolen.

What about paying the 50 quid a year and still having downtime like you do on live?
Unacceptable from Sony though, free or not.

iv not personally witnessed any downtime on XBL, nor have a seen any stories in the news about downtime, so there cant have been anything more then a few hours at a time.
i dont have the exact figures to hand but id be surprised if there was anything to shout about

1 - how do you know sony wont compensate

1 - Its sony, but they may surprise me
2 - I said personal data, and on that note, 70m records, with a possibility of CC details.
3 - its has been down solidly for a week, xbl was not down continuously, but experienced intermittent problems over the period of time

so really what you said was rubbish and based on no facts  you dont know users wont be compensated and you dont know if any CC details have been taken, bare in mind this has not happened to PSN before and PSN has not been down intermittently for 2 weeks before like XBL,
i mean i would be really pissed off if i paid for PSN and it went down, a bit like all those paying XBL users

you dont really have an argument barnshaw lol, you are trying to compare a major system outage, with personal data definately stolen, with a possibility of CC details stolen
with an intermittent, admittedly annoying, problem for users, but thats as far as it went, a slight annoyance for xbl users

and then underneath it says the data "MIGHT"
so really again its not a fact and just scaremongering as you probably well know.

i can alsmot bet that someone or a group of people intruded the PSN network and it was spotted almost immediately by Sony, as a precaution they closed it down and started repairing and improving the security and that is where they are at.

In the five years I've had xbox I don't think I've paid more than half that for 12 months. Fair enough it adds up but it's well worth it, I'd pay double I had to.
