i like the look of the AX GT..

755kg with a vts engine in should be fun.

how do they handle in standard form?

id like a good base to make better rather than a shit base to make ok

Mk1 clio 1.8 16v or williams? Handling is spot on and pretty good power to weight, also a lil bit different :-)

your going to be back up in the 2.0l class the with the williams, so its down on bhp compared to alot of cars, and most are rotten now,

ph1 172 fits the needs imo.

i think we will end up in the under 1400cc catagory as the initial purchace is lower which gives up more to modify the car.. also there are alot of options in this catagory and looking at the entries of this season.. we will probably do alright..

just need to find a car that fits the bill..

i recon a 106 quicksilver, ax gt or anything like that kinda thing will be a good starting point, both of them are less than 800kg standard kerb so will be able to loose a bit of that, both 1.4 engines which with a couple of tweeks will run over 100bhp, decent light wheels and tyres (r888's) and some decent suspension and i recon we will be onto a winner.

1k would get a dog of a s1 rallye I'd expect to pay between £1500-2k for a good example

the s1 106 rallye is a 1.3. 100bhp standard, maybe a bit more.

quicker than a vts/gti 0-60 standard

if you can find one with an original s1 gearbox, then its all thats what makes them so quick for its engine size

that, i could not tell you. maybe danny can shed some light.

even if you go into the budget for mods a bit just to buy one, a s1 rallye would be perfect for you

you'd get a better 1.4 XSI for £1000, with 1.1 final drive it will be close to the rallye box

I've seen 16v XSI's go for as little as £700, that would be ideal

Depends how far you want to take it:
http://www.trackscotland.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1526

My MB4 wasn't a torque monster but it was far from as gutless as internet legend would have us believe. Happy enough at 30mph in 5th gear for example.

What exactly are the requirements for the classes? I tried finding them but failed It's hard to think of stuff when the exact limitation aren't clear

As Danny said though, 1.6 on TBs would be a good idea.
