I cant see a pattern part failing after 1000miles, think there is some snobbery on here towards pattern parts.
Also who carries spare wheel bearings with them? Apart from Steve

i dont normally carry them with me, but when going to the ring its a good idea to go prepared, lee had spare CV joints ffs

Yeah I did, size of the axle spacer won't make a difference it's still putting no more or no less strain on the bearing

Bit of imory paper and that'd be fine by the looks of things, you can still see the machining marks on it by the look of it.

I've not read the other three pages no doubt full of tales of rings, men and lips, but is it a tapered roller bearing?

nah thats proper deep, as said can get my finger nail in quite a way and a stub axle is hard as fuck youd never sand that away

I had a bearing weld itself to the stub axle. Now thats what you call fucked.

it's not about rubbing the mark until it disappears, just enough so that there's no raised metal around the edge of it. A bearing would sit fine on there since 99% of the metal it would be on is fine, just have the thing held solid in a vice or similair and use a strip of imory and rub until smooth.

Is it a tapered roller bearing with a seperate race? As in the same setup as a corsa?

similar setup, tapered bearings with race, but the hubnut is torqued to 235nm so its not the type where you have to keep pinching up

the bearing butts against the ridge on the stub axle

any car will need work at some point, no one can keep a car long enough to need it, they sell at a loss and pay too much for something else and repeat the proceedure, thinking they have done well
