Got to disagree there Tom, I consider myself a "petrolhead" however the price of insurance/tax/running costs play a very big part on owning the right car.

My Evo was IMO a fantastic drivers car however the running costs/mpg was laughable compared to my astra VXR which in all honesty was very nearly if not just as quick on the move at half the price.

Changed nowadays. Some diesel's are powerful cars, they're not all motorway luggers.

I wouldn't consider myself a petrol head, but I have a V6. There are numerous members on here with more technical knowledge and with a greater interest in cars that drive diesels.

The Seat Leon diesel touring cars prove that you don't need a petrol to be the faster/better car.

If you work in the trade you must have petrol in there somewhere.

The above is why I consider myself a petrolhead.

I drive a diesel Skoda.

I also went out this evening and drove it for 2 and 1/2 hours, just because I could.

Does that stop me being a petrolhead?

Personal opinion..........
But I think a petrol head is someone who lives, breaths and sleeps cars. Its the topic of conversation they have a passion for and the subject they would choose in a pub quiz. They know the technical side and get excited about stuff like the mcphursan strut and how a engine can be engineered into the cars structure. I don't think they need to own a fast car, or own a car at all. If you lost your job and had to sell your beloved M3 that wouldn't stop you from being a petrol head....... I think a petrol head also has interest for anything with an engine.

tbh, if you have come online and use this forum, that makes you a pistonhead.

i don't think there should be levels of pistonheads based on how good your car is or how expensive it is. Its a bit snobby
