what are these like? tax examples? ig? gearbox might fall out though
Tax is £155 for a year on a 1.9cdti.
Gearbox issues are an Internet myth.
Seriously they are easy to spot and for how many are sold and how many issues there are it's got to be a small percentage.
Easily get 50-60mpg on motorways cruising at 65-70mph.
Can pick them up quite cheaply nowadays.
You could get a 5 door one aswell if your expecting. Which will mAke access easier as the 3 doors are quite tight for getting in the back.
I love mine.
£165 a year mine is now.

Don't buy VAG. Decided that they have too many common faults.

i'd seriously consider it steve. you wont need to tax, mot or insure the puma then. get an estate car with a tow bar and a cheap trailor
can do what you like with the puma then, can even get used pure slicks on the car then think about it.
only thing that would cost you more is the fuel. but your saving that money buy not having the puma on the road

Get a 1972 land rover and pay no tax, fix it with hammers, parts are cheap and great for powder coating

you have a good idea of reliable cars you bought an alfa.... strong work.
i done 22k in my Ibiza had no problems whatsoever, clutch was slipping after the remap so a new dual mass and clutch.
Uprated the brakes to 312's, some polybushes and coilovers and done an open pit trackday at oulton in it too, again no issues.
Big into my VAG's, PD diesels are a solid motor! whether it be a golf, bora etc... can be had for peanuts too.

If you're towing don't get a Defender, it'll end up being too heavy and you'll need +E.
Extra money from the Puma not being on the road would increase your budget though.
Although £3k would get you a nice 1.3 CDTi Corsa which is £35py to tax and mega on the juice.
