Some people would rather spend less on fuel to enable them to buy more expensive/better things that aren't car related. It's not about saving money as a whole. It gets spent on other things. Depends what your priorities are.

If priority is to have a rusty old high mileage car sitting in the garage while collecting expensive parts for it then a Corrado was an excellent choice.

Hi John, i get you mixed up with John-d, i don't know who either of you are and the comments usually bounce straight off.

Who is it building that little car, (really crap thing), might be two on here, a gold thing and then some old vauxhall with homemade skirts and arches, like cereal box stuck on it.

That must be John-d, I drive a completely standard, completely boring diesel vectra.

Seems neither car is yours that i'm thinking of

what is it you do with cars? Or do you just drive standard boring cars and are just a car fan mentally.

Like i like helicoptors but have nothing to do with them.

I'm a mental car fan.
I normally just buy what I fancy at the time.
In this case I had just bought a house and decided I needed an estate, I went out the next day and bought the Vectra, I do it on a whim.

Bored though and might get something else if I find time to sell it.

I looked into the mpg you get from a helicoptor and decided a car was a better choice, so staying with a car for now.

thats why i don't have a helicoptor

Exactly. Most cars struggle for 50mpg, even supposedly economic ones, no way is that even near true. xa0s's car for example, tuned Diesel and it's worse than some petrol cars on fuel

Nobody posts the reading after doing a 150mph run, they do it after resetting it driving at 60 down the motorway.

How do these tuned diesels use less fuel??

Ive never understood that. To make more power and torque you need to add more fuel and air.

so how can the use more and less at the same time...

Honestly mine is averaging 37.1 MPG at the moment which is all heavy traffic driving to and from work 4 miles each way.

Even on a run sitting at 80 I only get mid to high 40s. I can get 50 odd if I sit at 65-70 on a long run.

No way you'd get 60 odd unless travelling at 50 mph in 6th on the motorway which lets face it who does that.

My findings after having 2 cars with that engine are about the same, slightly better because I'm not heavy traffic, it's mostly moving.

I've had a couple of 1.9 vag's as well and got almost exactly the same.

shit boring driving along and checking your mpg, i bet these people get home and share the news. I bet at family get togethers there is a little group of mpg talk going on in the corner, while admiring each others cars, that pretty much all the same thing but with different badges.

i bet they take photos of nice cars and thats as near as they get to living the dream, then back to mpg watching

I've got a 1.9 150 CDTI and for everyday on the road driving it is perfect. It goes along nicely on the motorway too.

Only average 40 mpg driving around town and 47 if travelling at 80 on the motorway.

ive been running one on mine now for a while and what a diffrence it makes!!! its like a diffrent car, as for the gear box issues i havent had any. yet.

172 was the only car that surprised me with fuel consumption, 32mpg with the same usage as all the other cars got.

That's the sort figures people should be quoting, adjusted for the trip computer being out (if it is) of course.

It only ever shows more than that if I'm on a run and I'm tailing a lorry after resetting.
