Yeah, there were a few. I was looking around the 7k mark and the paint of every one of them was a shambles and there were bits falling off.

Those were all trade cars right enough.

I'm not going to doubt Jr and Whitter as they have had more experience with the,.

My two cents is they look fantastic stiff offer reasonable amount of space and are economical to run.

If they where as bad as made out in this thread you would not see 10billion Mk4 golfs a day and 1million TTs.

Get one, if it's poop sell it on.

They aren't bad made. But have the same issues as every other 1.8t and have electrical gremlins. They do also drive very similar to a mk4 golf and have the same feel inside

For a 10 year old car, they can still cut it in the looks department. Will be a future icon imo.

And most cars of that age will have problems. If its fine on the day you view it/drive it etc, then i see no problems in buying it.

You could look at every car on the planet of the same age, and still find they have common fault. I certainly wouldn't let it put me off.

also for whats its worth at 90k on a TT i would be paying attention to:

Front wishbone bushes (rear most) the like to split at higher mileages and also come unbonded from the outer alu ring with age

Front anti roll bar and its bushes for wear and play - normally characterised by a loud knocking over bumps

Excessivly worn front suspension top mounts

Broken rear springs around the bottom

Rear anti roll bar retaining collars can split with age

also the rear arm bushes/ball joints (dependent on age) can start to creak

I would also be checking for oil leaks from the camcover and the VVT chain tensioner solenoid gasket on the right side of the head

I would want the cambelt to have been changed along with the water pump also at that mileage

Haldex oil changed every 20k
Haldex filter every 40k

Brake fluid changed every 2 years

Plus the other bits already mentioned by others

how long do you spend looking over a car? if someone wanted to buy mine and took half a day looking over it, jacking it up etc etc, i'd be telling them to do one.

Looks lovely, poss been in a minor bump? Airbag and TC light on, screws on front bumper dont all look the same in the engine bay pic. Im no expert though.

I wouldnt let that put me off though aslong as quality of work looks good and not recorded damage.

Good luck

I agree but people tend to look at VAG and think they are ver reliable and in reality they are as reliable as any other make but no better

See plenty with high miles and they are a good car but you need to be careful when buying them
