Seen as you are well into your cars Colin i would definetly try and get an audi avant or may even a 3 series estate (unsure on how much these go for but i love them in black!) I think if you got something a bit less fun but more practical you will probably get bored of it quicker. Im sure you can get a fun and stunning looking 'family' car with that budget.

I remember having a PE teacher who would watch us shower. There was one kid with a little willy who would pratically skip around the showers. I'd wear speedos or splash myself with sink water and pretend I'd been in them.
James was in the year below me so we never showered together until we left school and became men.

depends what you want
For me having driven both for some period of time the Quashqui (SP) ticks all the boxes
Good spec
not bad looking
good on fuel
plenty of room
Mazada 6 is a good car but I think you will always feel like you should have bought something else
Congratulations by the way.

citroen c5 tourer. really good car, nice interior etc massive boot.
Mrs doesnt want an estate, thats been made clear already when I tried to pitch an RS4 avant
What!
She needs some training.
Estate cars are boring apparently, this will be mainly hers so is on her final word.
I assume no-one suggesting estates read the above comments then?

If I spend less on the family car then I can justify more on the 'toy' mine. Maybe save for a year and upgrade the M3 to something else

I forgot you had the M3 still, so ye it would make sense to play with that and if you fancy a change then you can save some extra and swap that for something.
I think you should take her to an audi garage and get looking at some S line A4s, if the saloon isnt practical enough for you then im sure you can persuade her to get the estate. Personally i wouldnt be touching a near new ford/vauxhall or whatever when the budget is there for something very nice and still fairly low miles. That's just my opinion though
