I'm not a big drinker at all I think its a waste of money so wouldn't ever defend it.
I guess people use alcohol to celebrate and enjoy certain events. Nothing any good ever comes from taking drugs.

in 2010 8600 people died from alcohol.
In 2010 2700 people died from drug poisioning.
So therefore anyone who drinks but thinks less of people who take drugs are hypocrites

Well I've never taken drugs so I guess I can't hop up on my soap box too much about it all.
All I know is I've never had the urge to try drugs nor will I ever have it. A lot of my friends do them.

you need to compare people died in some sort of relation to percetage of total users, those results arent a true representation as far more people drink compared to people who take drugs.

So, if I said 1000 people died from drug use in 2012 and 5000 died from alcohol use in 2012. But 10,000 people took drugs and 1 million people drunk alcohol. You would say that 1000 is less than 5000 so alcohol is just as bad as drugs?
Obviously those numbers are entirely fictional, I'm just trying to illustrate how pointless those numbers that you posted are.
