They could have DNA in his car, on his clothes, footage of his car at a certain time, eyewitness statements, e might have admitted it....
They must have a reason to a) detain him in the first place and b) change the reason to suspected murder

The law changed a few years back I think.
Obviously you have to have some pretty strong other evidence to try someone in the absence of the victims body though.

Being local and knowing the bloke I've always got my doubts.. Im 50% 50% I wouldn't have thought he was the type, he spent a couple of month at my old mans place in australia while he was travelling, bit of a shock
