My missus Dad is an old school blacksmith/farrier and fabricator-he has an inch thick steel work bench and does all his drawings in chalk on that; however, I recently needed a register plate and a few brackets made for my fireplace so did a proper drawing set for him and he told me he wished more people did that rather than relying on him to interpret what they want. He can work both ways but prefers a drawing to go off so I can see both sides of the argument

I could do it for around a tenner. 8x4 sheet of 1.6 galv folded for the top is £30
7.5 metres of 40x40x2.5 RHS is £17
could make 6 of them for that and have the stands galvanised for about £7
so in reality £9 to make one but really, with the amount of off cuts i have and the quantities of stuff i put through galv every week it would likely only cost a pound. the rest going on labour and a new napkin from doing my drawings.
I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

What would you seriously need to draw for this
It's so basic it's untrue.

A fabby we use at work that's also just round the corner from my work has said he'll do it for £80-£100. Doesn't want a drawing, just drop a bag off later today and that's all he needs
Thanks for the offers but this is going to be cheaper as I don't have to pay postage.

You could have put that £50 towards a decent carpet.

I printed this out and gave him it
It looks like the tray parts been bent from one piece but I'm assuming he had to weld the back part on but has just ground the welds down and painted over so you can't tell. It's a tidy job
