I have a cast iron bath in my bathroom, looking a bit sorry for itself. Stupid bint that lived there was mixing paint in it. My dad thinks we should rip out and replace. One of my mates said it might be worth a few quid (a search suggests not) but it will be messy ripping out as it will shatter and there will be shards everywhere.
Someone at work said he removed one once and it was the worst task he did in a house. He suggested getting re enamaled would be cheaper than replacing.
Any thoughts? Bathroom will be getting done once I've finished upstairs.
Will be getting 6" white tiles on walls and black tiles on floor - Orange is going!

Doing it up. I can't believe someone lived there! Really slow progress as the skylights in the loft were leaking so that took a lot of effort. Was also yellow in there so took 4 coats of paint. Finally finished painting the other bedrooms and now need to fit the fireplace, fit skirting board and sort the floors. Keeping floorboards in front and fitting carpet in back bedroom.
Then move down stairs and start bathroom, kitchen and living and dining rooms.

Offered the fireplace up. Will be plastering around it. There won't be any exposed brick on the chimney breast. Tried it on the back bedroom hearth too but it is too big for there. I think I'm going to struggle to find a small one.

Bit more progress :
Now the fire place is open needed to make the opening the same size as my fireplace. Decided to use blue bricks as I thought this would give a decent finish against the cast iron -
Off back tomorrow to do the arch.
Also, as you can see the old toilet seat was disgusting. Bathroom not started yet but I could stand the sight of it any longer, plus if I need to go, I'd not want to sit on that -
One the bathroom has been tiled I also have this Victorian flush to go on -

Ain't read all pages but is this listed? Do you like the Victorian style? If the fire surround is for show I would render and paint it a light colour and I'd also wire a light in it and make it a feature. Otherwise I'd of blanked it off.

Not listed, just going for Victorian style. Fireplace is getting blanked off, but leaving it open at the front so it looks like it is usable. Will probably put something in the opening.

Fireplace arch done. Behind all that black cement are pieces of broken up brick to fill the gaps. Once it has all set the concrete in the middle of the row of 4 bricks above will be knocked out then all the surrounding brick work can be pointed up. Then it will all be plastered over and the fireplace can be fitted.

I think it is because of the fireplace downstairs.

Looks shit off centre IMO . If you was going to all that trouble why didn't you build it in centre? There will be a header in there somewhere

Be a fuck on to move it i reckon.
I'd just stud off the left side of the chimney to make it a bit wider, job done.

Leave it as it is and put some fire tools and logs beside it, will look like it was meant to be like that.

They are off set because there are 2 flues going up the breast, in some cases 3.

Todays work -
Plastered around fireplace:
Stripping wallpaper in dining room:
Following the theme of orange in the bathroom, it appears the dining room was once yellow!
Skirting board cut to length in back bedroom:
Must add the plastering is my dads work!
