Obviously he can just reject the contract and theres nothing Ashley can do, he might however have a quiet word in Carrolls ear and tell him that it would be in Newcastles best interests if you go as the money is too good for the club to miss out on. Ultimately its down to Carroll signing the contract though, otherwise hes still a Newcastle player.
Same thing happened with us and Brodie this year. Got a massive bid from Crawley for him, couldnt turn it down, Brodie wanted to stay but we told him that we really needed him to sign as we desperately needed the money. So he did.
