i never came up against 1 gti that was even worth playin with. mind u most of the vts/gti only had exhausts n filters

I thought you bought your car with the 148 bhp stuff already done to it?
I've seen loads of saxo / 106 gti's doing under 15.4's ... If you could only do that with 148 bhp, when you had a lot less power (if you say only exhaust and filter), I doubt you were beating every VTS you ever saw at crail.
PIE CJ, so you never got your car rolling roaded or put it down the 1/4 mile?
Maybe you just got lucky with a quick standard one, but there's no difference between Gti's and Vts's in theory. The fact you can have differences between 2 standard Gti's, or 2 standard Vts's (i.e. 1 VTS make 120 bhp, another make 128) - it's quite possible this is why some seemed slower? or just shit drivers?

I changed the exhaust but the fact still remains it wasn't extensively modified as you previously suggested and I can guarantee you it made 148.8 bhp on the rollers, that was with a custom exhaust too.
I can also guarantee you I beat every vts I came up against but if you think otherwise then thats sound nobody reading this could really give a fuck anyway

kano your rallye is probably the nicest ive ever seen
i think gti's/vts are great little cars but if i had the money i would find myself a mint mk1 rallye and 16v it
also i know someone with a rallye which has motorbike TB's fitted which work out alot cheaper than normal TB's

107 standard supposedly.
Mine made 120 lb ft of torque when it made 141 at the fly
The torque is quite low, but it's all up one end hence the power.
Just means you have to work a bit harder (keep it in powerband) and it's a bit slower in 4th / 5th.

Thats very low
What sort of gains can be made with just a decent air filter? want more torque than that lol

4-2-1 exhaust manifold increases torque.
Throttle bodies will increase torque greatly
the reason the torque is low is because its a 1.6. If you compare the torque of the 106 gti and a corsa Gsi, they're basically around the same.
The term 'no replacement for displacement'.
How the torque is used is important to remember, not just what peak torque is.
Civic Type R - a known quick hot hatch, also has very little torque in comparison to it's peak BHP.
At the end of the day? real world difference? Obviously more torque is better, but if the car is quick - then who cares. You just have to rev the arse off it.
A typical example.
A 2.0 16v Corsa XE - 150 bhp / 150 lb ft of torque
1/4 mile of around 15.5's (I'm being generous as most arn't standard, have exhausts, filters and more)
My 106 gti
141 bhp / 120 lb ft of torque
1/4 mile in 15.3.
That said, If I was on a motorway doing 80 mph, and a corsa XE was next to me and we both floored it - the XE would leave me behind as then it's torque would be more important.
At the end of the day, especially after getting 6 points for 1 excessive speeding offence - I do not plan to go speeding over 80 any time soon. So my 106 Gti is the perfect car to go 0-70 off some lights and leave most things behind
