my brothers a mechanic so i have no worries, i didn't buy it to be worried about breaking it, i brought it to have fun, my brother rebuilt my engine in my old one 3 times, changed the gearbox, and put 2 new clutches in, that was the most fun car i've ever owned!!

yeah fun but costly unless you can get em fixed cheap/free then they cost a fortune

seriously that car was the best. if it broke down my bro fixed it, i used the aa more times in one week than my family has used in a year!!!!

Rather have the Polo. Be loads better built and more refined than a Pug.

Also IMO they are better looking.

I'd say polo from the 2 choices.

If your widening your search then 206 gti's really aren't bad. I started off with a nice car once and would have left it as it was if I hadn't got a better company car.

To be fair though it's cost me a bit to repair it when stuff goes wrong, the build quality isn't great. I knew that before I got it though

Interesting read the last 4 pages as for people saying that the 106 will fall to bit and that the gearbox is like chocolate well I have to admit i've never had one problem with mine, infact its been the most reliable car i've had so far and its on 88k now.

The polo gti is a great lookin car when lowered with a nice set of wheels but I prefer the rawness of the 106.

Colin have a shot of both and see what you think

Colin

Do you want to race everything in sight?
Speed in upbuilt areas?
Drive round and round roundabouts to waste time?
Be a general cunt?
Die when a gust of wind swipes you off the road?
Have size 3 feet or smaller?
Do the occasional track day?

If you say no to these then get the Polo, Dont get me wrong the 106 is a great car, infact I do love knicking the keys to my brother Saxo a lot cos its great fun BUT to live with everyday I wouldnt want it.

Me and my brother have this argument all the time but what he doesnt realise is handling is not the end all and see all of a car, everyones taste is different. I love small french hot hatches but as i like to be a bit relaxed when driving I prefer something comfy.

In all seriousnous where is the car going to spend most of its time? I reckon traffic, car parks and the odd motorway, why do you need twitchy car that handles well for that?

Just rember unless you want t hack it around everywhere which I dont see you doing then get the Polo, good sensible residuals and can look great with very little money spent on them.
