Hes telling the truth though.
My XE'd Corsa sport (standard engine) keeps up with an EP3, I doubt a 1.8 can do that.

Not wanting to get in the the debate, as I'm sure a good xe'd Nova/Corsa would kick the arse off an 1800xe1 engined Nova/Corsa.
But, I'm going to be doing a few bike carb'd 1800's in both Nova's and Corsa's shortly then we'll see exactly how fast or not the 1800's really are, compared to an ex'd Nova and Corsa on bike carbs, should mention that the 1800 will be running f13's on cr gears and 4.18 and 4.53 cw+p's, so acceleration on the smallblocks should be good.

tbh, it's rather obvious that the c20xe is going to be faster than an x18ex1 don't you think? Like warren stated, the 1800 is gonna be faster than a 1.6 but never as fast as a 20xe.. Not without mods anyway. 115bhp standard on the 1800, it's not gonna beat a 150bhp redtop is it now??
The two main reasons I have chosen to go for an 1800 conversion is that I'm 18 years old (insurance), And simply, COST. Same mounts, box, shafts etc etc. You can get a running Vectra for about £400, low mileage, then scrap the shell and get some money back.
Win win situation IMO price wise!

at the end of the day a xe is going to be quicker due to the almost 40bhp difference, and the added torque,
i would like to do a 1.8 conversion in a b and iirc you can get them to about 150bhp without spending mega money

would it not cost less and be easier to tune th 1600 16v to get it to same power as 1800 and it will be less on insurance as it snot a dodgy engine conversion?

I'm making an assumption here but i would say a x16xe corsa would be at least a second slower to 60 than a x18xe1 corsa due to the fact that a x16xe vectra will do 0-60 in 12.9 and a x18xe1 vectra will do it in 11.5... according to Parkers anyway.

Ive had a race with one and there was fuck all in it with my 1.6 sport, I couldn't pull away from him and he couldn't pull away from me at all.
Suppose It could be down to drivers.
This was on a private track of course.
