Last time i looked was between 30-50k.

And you dont start getting decent money until you're a skipper at a medium sized airline. Captains at large ones can easily clear triple figs.

Newly qualified was about 20-25k last time i looked.

Unsure on chances of job after training.

Hence staying with accounts as work are paying for it so I at least have something, can piss about with new career after that if I'm not happy and will have something to fall back on.

I'd like to be a teacher

Realistically I want to get more forums and just run those.

Unrealistically although I'm pursuing it, have a mobile hospitality company who rent and staff outdoor events, whist leaving me with a fleet of toys to go to shows in.

Tell me about it, thats why I stopped playing last year. Was costing me a fortune.

Would love to be able to live off peanuts just so that I could play at the top and enjoy the experiences, travel etc. However, like most people, I want to be financially secure later on in life, so I will have to just slave on lol

Was 60k about 20 years ago and only know that as a friend of the old man funded it himself.

As John said, it's more 80k+ now and unless you happen to land a position with a big airline doing long-haul then pay is pretty poor (£30/35k with someone like Easy-jet). And from everyone i know that is a commercial pilot, it isn't that glamorous either.

Some airlines do sponsorship where they'll pay for your training and in return they 'own' you for 10 years+ and offer you crap pay. Spaces are usually limited (think BA take on 1 or 2 pilots a year that are sponsored) and the selected few tend to be shit hot.

Russ - What about the 70s/80s (or even 90s to some extent)?

I'd love to be a pilot, More an if I won the lottery thing, put myself through all the training etc and perhaps start some kind of training company or something.

Must have missed out something from the pilot training, 80k is even more ridiculous so will never happen

Gez - Win the lottery then buy your own fighter planes and airfield
