i know everyone's experience is different.
But ive been in a vxr with a few people in it and raced a saxo vts with full manifold, decat back exhaust, filter and a map with raised limiter.
And the vxr went passed it really easy.
They say the breathing mods are the best bhp gains on those gti's and vts.
And the vts has got grp n bilsteins on it with gti-6
front brake set up. And again the vxr seemed to
outhandle it and still out brake the saxo.
Like i said above. Everyone has their own experiences and opinions.
Im not saying gti/ vts are rubbish at all.
All im saying is the vxr is in a different leauge

i wouldnt say so, the vxr for a start has a lot more weight to deal with, the 106 gtis are in the top list of best fwd handling hot hatches, however you need to know how to drive properly to get the best from them. They can be quite twitchy and you need to know what you're doing.
The VXR is more approachable from an amateur point of view and probably gives the more secure feeling when driven hard, giving you more confidence to push it
Give the 106 and the vxr to a decent driver and id be willing to bet both perform similar times round a track.
BHP per ton isnt far off either, 150 for the 106 and 160 or something for the vxr

i can see why colin doesnt like it, he has a focus rs...
Im not & never was comparing it to the RS or M3.
I just got in the passenger seat thinking along the lines of 'this should be good' as i'd been waiting to get a drive/be driven in one for ages. But it just didnt impress me loads.
For comparison Jades Cooper S which has 170-ish bhp seemed more sporty/fun/involving.
Right enough I never drove it myself so I cant rightly compare it to anything, but over 150 miles....different roads........just wasnt feeling the wow factor, as a passenger.
Sorry guys
One of you gay's with VXR corsa needs to visit me & toss the keys in my direction so I can give it a damn good spanking!!

i think the vxr, or any modern car is designed to be a comfortable passenger car. im sure if youre the one holding on to the steering wheel and pushing the pedals its a different ball game

Possibly, but IMO a fast car always feels faster when your not the one thats in control of it.
Always felt more scared/speed conscious in Scooby, M3, RS when someone else is giving it death & my arsehole's starting to chew up the seat fabric. Always feels faster on the other side IMO!!

You could probably park the VX220 in the Q7's boot if you fold the seats down

Please quote me where I said 106gti
well the fact that you have/have owned 106s in the past and regularly stick up for them states you have a liking for them so must prefer them to new cars. a corsa vxr is as you say a new car.
What a fucking stupid assumption, I prefer older cars to newer, I never said anything about liking a 106 over a VXR, stop making shit up in your own head you clown.

Why are we comparing an old hot hatch to a VXR now?

danny im not trying to start an argument with you.
you said new cars do nothing for you, i was asking what similar class, ie hot hatch cars from previous decades would tickle your pickle more than a vxr would..... i used a 106 gti as an examle as theres not many old hot hatches as good

I said I prefered older cars to new, I never mentioned anything about prefering an older hot hatch to a VXR, although I probably would, not sure which one but older cars appeal to me more, I love the way you can feel everything in the road, every bump and rattle etc. For example, I'd pick a Saph or Escort Cossie over a Focus RS anyday, wouldn't even need to think about it. But I suppose that might be just me.

I love Saphs, always have, my mate just ripped all the running gear out of a mint one to stick in his Escort Cossie track car, I was gutted.
