The irony of it is Paki translated to English means "beautiful" and stan meaning "land". So calling someone a Paki you are calling them beautiful in their language. It all boils down to how things are perceived. It isn't what you say to someone, it is how they take it. And those who actually think we have a feedom of speech in this country then lolz at you for being so naive. try going into a police station shouting "fucking pigs" and see how far your freedom of speech gets you!

This is why it doesn't matter that it's a shortened version of the name of their country, it doesn't even really matter what the word is at all. It is the venom behind it being said in the first instance.

Paki has racist connotations, and because of the massive racism problem in the UK calling someone that is only ever really done in a racist way, in some cases the other words you mentioned can also be used in the same way but seldom is.
To give you an example; I'm Australian, if people say "yeah Sam's an Aussie" I don't find that racist, if someone said to me "That fucking Aussie Sam should just fuck off back to his own country, the convict" then that is obviously racist.
I've made some sentences in your post bold to show you have you've actually said what I've just explained above.
If you are saying that calling someone a Paki is not a racist term full stop, then you my friend are very naive and uneducated in that respect.

I would be interested on Ian's views on this TBH.
