the factory matching is pretty poor on these apparently, inlets are worth doing but leave the exhaust ports, or you will probably loose torque as you’ll get too much reversion and the cylinder will be full of exhaust gas rather than a nice fresh fuel and air

Deffo worth it, did it to my 172, ask warren and fad how it drove after they both were impressed with the performance. Done over 100 172/182 inlets at work now. Hugely popular mod! Done a fair few 197/200's aswell bit more work involved with them bit still worth the effort

The inlets ports on the heads are all cnc, the heads flow very well, it's hard to improve the flow. The inlets are poo tho the have big steps of around 2mm on the inlet to head.

cool, when i said inlets are worth doing but leave the exhaust ports, i was actually just referring to matching them, not the actual port design etc

you pay more for a remap. simular gains.
and theres a stage 1 tuning offer for like 400. inlets and a map. bargain nice gain between the two of them

You drive it everyday? It needs some fine tuning.

Not doubting you but don't spend 200 on messing with that inlet might be something worth.doing if you can do it yourself. Cans and remap?

Why do you care so much about what he spends his money on?

Inlet and remap improve the driveability which is what I'm after not an increase in BHP

Remap will make a small amount of difference, especially if there is any flat spots.
spending 200 on that inlet wont do anything noticable

Remap changes the way it's drives dramatically, as it removes the vvt 5k kick so there is pull from from low down. Also the 7.5k rev limit makes a difference.
Cams and a map is 1500-2k this is 300 tops all in. Steve maybe you could comment if you actually knew about anything more than stripping a car

Why do you doubt the inlet so much? It's been tested and proven to make good gains. As said above. The inlet ports are a lot smaller than the head inlet ports, restrictig the air flow. with a remap the power delivery is smoother and better. Best 200 i spent for the engine

so far i have seen postings of 2-5bhp, thats all the evidence you have as to it making a difference.
2-5bhp which you wont notice at all

However i do agree a remap might be a bit more worthwhile

there really aren’t any downsides to doing it either, 8 bhp will be noticeable enough and because the engine will be more volumetrically efficient it will actually improve mpg at light throttle etc
