How is it not a proper 4 wheel drive car?
How many wheels are driven?

I know that and take it into account.
The 1 case I'm talking about it came up in conversation because he was saying how much worse his mk2 TT was than his mk1 quatro in the snow.
For the sake of this thread, haldex is apparently rubbish because it's basically FWD, so how can it possibly be worse than an identical FWD version?

if you were to stick it in the air and drive the wheels then all 4, but in motion under load much of the torque is directed to the front wheels, with little to the rears, you would still get fwd characteristics in the snow

infact without knowing the exact specs, its entirely possible the system at times is entirely fwd

So you don't know the specs but you know it's no good in the snow?

No you don't.
An Audi TT was literally the only car to not get stuck near me when it last snowed.
Is a Freelander not 4WD?

but surely 30% rear drive is better than 0% rear drive?

infact just read an article that claims in the snow haldex is entirely a 100/0 split with all torque to front wheels as the system is detected no drive from front wheels and the electronic coupling switches off completely

I'd rather have it than not have it.

yes but the electronic diff is customisable as to when it locks and doesnt and how much toruqe distribution etc,
A freelander would be customised to be more like a AWD with even distribution i imagine audi configure theres completely different

Lesson to be learned here is to consult your local parts department before going out in the snow.

so how come you never get stuck in a car with Haldex then?
and surely if that was the case, when you accelerated hard and the front wheels spun, the car would do exactly the same thing, send more power to the front?
I think not.

He's clearly found a forum post saying it doesn't work and just went with that instead of spending 30 seconds thinking about it.

What about the google results that say how it adjusts to give better performance in snow, just ignore them?

Looks like there is power going to the rear wheels in that video too. Thought it was FWD in the snow?

i think its possible to trick the car to a 100 rear split if you are doughnuting in the snow as the front wheels arent trying to spin at all
