The question is a reasonable one because of typical petrol and diesel engine sizes. If they then argue its either a diesel or not 1.7 they become an idiot

Technically you can have a car that is chipped and mapped though?

Mine has a Hondata K100 chip on my ecu and it's been remapped!?

I do agree though, so many bull shitters out there... my favourite comment recently:

him: oh my mates standard corsa vxr kept up with an e46 m3 till 110mph!
me: really!? I've driven an e46 m3 and they aren't what you'd call slow?
him: yea he kept up easily... they are slow, I beat one in my old Honda CRX del sol (160bhp)
me: oh right

Also, there are a lot of people who seem to be a tad optimistic when it comes to power figures... from what I've seen on RR days and online etc, most standard cars make less than what is stated (1 year old Clio 197 made 182bhp on the last RR I went to). Yet people still seem to think oh with a back box and air filter that's gotta be 20/30bhp!

A remapped corsa vxr could keep up with an M3, but standard no chance.

how much does a remapped vxr push out? 220 - 230bhp? if so could be close could it now? M3 power to weight is 216bhp per tonne odd is it not? cant be that much difference

On the Thorney site, stage 2 gets 225bhp bhp so I dare say it's a bit less! But even then, going by parkers figures of 1223kg it would only have 183bhp/tonne. Although obviously power to weight isn't everything, that's still a fair difference!

They aren't slow by any means tbh But I smashed a supposidly remapped one and I really have no idea how I'd fair against an M3! Closest thing was a 335d MSport and fucking hell it took me a wee while to haul past that

Stage 3 vxr is about 250bhp, definitely not saying it would be quicker but it would have a decent chance of keeping up.

Bit different from a remapped one really? Still don't think it would be keeping with an M3 tbh! But that depends entirely on which one I guess and without proof we won't know!

A remapped Corsa VXR and a 500+bhp Corsa are two different worlds

Very true, but the point is people think that nothing can beat m3's and m5's.
