You can also take it in massive shoes.
I remember the first time I drove in big boots and I was shit, tried to use it as an excuse as to why my driving was shit and my mate who was older laughed at me, said it makes no difference if you're not a noob.

I can drive the truck in socks if I don't want to get it muddy and I can drive the Puma in riggers.
I'm sure lots of people would crash but really, get some more skill perhaps.

In fact I drove that motorhome through a field at Santa Pod in socks, towing, watching out for boy racers in a vehicle I don't even use every day, while not getting stuck. It really doesn't matter.

Appropriate footwear, if you've got big stupid boots that cause a problem that's just as bad.
If you tried to take your test in barefoot now you'd get failed on something.

I can jump in any car and drive it with any shoes on, it's not a problem and I could manage to do it without crashing.
I wouldn't though because it's stupid.

Since 'being a twat' isn't on the test sheet, it would be whatever else they could get you on.

If you drove like a noob because of some irrational fear there would be a box for that.

I'm still to see any evidence that driving barefoot is 'stupid'

Stop saying appropriate footwear, that just means not high heels or flip flops or anything else that could get stuck in the pedals etc. bare feet won't impair your ability to press a pedal fully down at all

conjecture and ridicule but no reasonably sourced evidence; quote me some reliably sourced figures or stats or even examples of accidents or deaths attributed directly to driving barefoot

I didn't die nor kill, maim or injure anyone when, as I said I would, I drove the 30miles home from work barefoot the night this post was started. Infact, it was much the same experience as when I drive with shoes, flip flops, boots or stilletos on.....

That even looks stupid without being physically stupid.
I'm going back to being blissfully ignorant of people doing this, unbelievable.

wouldn't have thought so, but would assume that was to do with fire safety as much as anything
Actually,
quote: All drivers must wear helmets which comply with governing body technical /safety regulations. We ask that all arms and legs be covered therefore shorts and t-shirts are not permitted. We also advise that you wear sensible driving shoes or trainers.
You're only advised to wear sensible shoes/trainers so possibly not compulsory. That's taken from Silverstone's guide to track days

Right, someone go to a trackday and point out they have no shoes on.
Pointing it out is a requirement because they obviously won't be checking.

I'm not in the know but someone who has contacts with organisers could raise the question. I don't think it would be advisable because of the increased risk of fire and in the event of a break down out on track but is it a compulsory requirement for track days?
