Exactly everyone can do 0-60 but most of the world aren't interested in some dodgy Tarmac in Germany.

the older N54 engine is reagrded as a better engine if you wish to tune - same engine as the 1M and uses 2 turbos

The N55 uses a single turbo

Very easy to get near 400 BHp from then

Apppreciate its a 1 series and only over a short speed range but they can shift

335d might be as fast "on paper" but it is a completely different car. No doubting in the real world driving round UK roads, the 335 would be "quicker" as it a diesel that doesnt need to rev and has stacks of torque.

However comparing the two is a tad pointless. They are completely different machines. If you cannot understand why then I suggest you learn more about cars!

And didnt Top Gear or What Car say 535d is best car in the world? I.E in real world terms or practicality vs sped vs refinement etc....

Tbh you all go for whats fastest as if thats the most important thing. Thats why i feel sorry for you guys and your car choices and arguements, its all bhp, qtr miles and overtaking each over.

Same with people who buy a certain car and have to shove a turbo on it as soon as possible, i think they are losing out as it usually ends up being unrealiable and endless tinkering.

Just enjoy a nice composed quality car, rather than raving on about who is faster in a straight line or round some track.

There will always be someone faster than you

1. Quick refined diesel that's a bit soggy. Cheaper to run.

2. Revvy taught performance car with quicker steering rack uprated suspension components, wider track, lower centre of gravity, V8 power, more equipment as standard, looks better. Expensive to run.

i think john-d is comparing the 335d to an E46 M3, not the V8 one, and the comparison is not based on specs but the price, performance seems to be the added bonus being discussed.

And if that's what he is comparing, the diesel, which is a newer car to begin with and pretty much just as fast for daily driving, for me would be the right one to go for.

I saw one of the remapped ones do a speed test and recorded over 180mph

Pretty epic going for a derv road engine, with simple remap. Something insane like 700nm of torque as well.

Fantastic engine, but will always be front heavy and never handle like the M3 will.

Road car, 335d, fun car, M3.

What you on about?

It was a record thing done in Germany by AC Schniztzer or something on one of the massive ovals. Not a "motorway and gps" thing like the boyracer world seems set on. So hardly comedy, its fact. Im unsure about the torque figure, it seems extremly high so unsure where i've got that, but I know its at least 550nm of torque. I think its that the auto box is rated up to 700nm maybe?

Petrol turbo engine, downpipe and remap or something = as fast as a Gallardo! Check youtube for evidence.

Just hold on a minute there. You can't compare a 1 series to a Gallardo. Totally different cars, Lambo will feel much better to drive even if it isn't faster.
